How well are we doing?

Hello peeps.

Our membership is not growing, that much is clear: the new security features have saved this forum
from a lot of bots/spammers/scams and the sad reality is that no genuine individuals have requested
to join in a very long time.

However...

there is some good news, to some degree, which is the following:

our website may be quiet but the number of views, since its inception in September 2019, is looking healthy
when compared to one of the biggest trading/finance forums out there.

I hear you say: that provides little consolation!

Here are the stats.

NOTTHENOOBS

TOTAL VIEWS TO DATE since its inception (Sep. 2019): 174029
TOTAL VIEWS divided by number of days (approximated to 800): approx. 217 daily.

BABYPIPS

TOTAL VIEWS TO DATE since its inception (? 2005): 1360000
TOTAL VIEWS divided by number of days (approximated to 5840): 7.35 daily.

To summarise: one of our biggest competitors has averaged 7.35 daily views in 16 years,
whereas we have averaged 217 daily views in just over 2 years.

Of course there is a flaw in this reasoning: an average or mean is not enough by itself.
However, our data is not sufficient to make a true and more nuanced comparison
with the stats that can be garnered about our competitors, such as you may see here:

https://www.similarweb.com/website/babypips.com/

On searching for traffic stats on Similarweb, NotTheNoobs does not bring up anything:
we are simply too small to register enough traffic data that could be visible by this service.

To summarise...

We clearly have a problem in membership growth and active participation terms, but
our views stats are perhaps not as unhealthy as to suggest that we should shut down this
whole operation...

:)

Hi @Caesar
I really don't want to appear to be the pessimist but I cannot believe there is any truth in either of these statistics.

There are very few new topics started here on NTN and these stats say there is an average readership of 217 per day.....and yet my new topic has only had 17 reads in nearly a week!!! This is not a measure of whether the content is good or bad, it is just a measure of the number of people that opened it. I cannot believe that out of 217 people daily, with so little else to read here, that only 17 people actually opened it even out of pure curiosity....

Secondly, it is certainly not true that BP only has an average of 7 readers a day. I would consider it to be more like 7 readers per minute!!!! I wonder if these statistics are distorted by the fact that BP changed its platform a few years back? Could it be that the total views data is only from this new platform and excludes everything from its earlier site? If so, then that data averaged over some 17 years would indeed look very thin!!

It is very frustrating since this is a very nice platform to work with and with a regular, but tiny, core of good genuine people. But, as you say, the growth is just not happening :(

Hello @Kaitsu,

as always, it is really encouraging to me/us
to see your contributions and positive comments
on this site: there are indeed a few, genuine good people
who really  make this site what it is.

Yes, the stats may be flawed, mainly because (in my view):

1) Babypips started small, as a collection of articles
on trading,  therefore the figures and my average
      do not reflect the growth over time;
2) our own stats only show the total number of views,
the biggest threads (SP500, EurUsd, Bitcoin,Oil) by
themselves account for most of this site's traffic/views,
therefore what you say is true, i.e. that most threads
attract very few views and make one wonder
where thos stats accrue.Again.the average is a blunt tool
and what I would like to see is where there is growth
within the site and how the views grew over time (or not).

One thought came to mind. Maybe some people tend to do the same as I do - i.e. just go to the "forum" tab and tap the "view most recent posts" link at the bottom of that page. This is a very quick way to browse all the recent posts in their entirety without having to open all the separate topics and therefore the views do not show on the individual topic pages. One only needs to open those topics where there is a post of specific interest and perhaps with an attachment such as a chart. Otherwise there is no need to go any further than this one page (the most recent posts) to keep up to date.

Convenient but not very helpful for the statistics! :D

Glad to see that the site will stay up. I've joined a few other sites like this one and this is one of my favorite forums, although it would always be nice to see more traffic and posting opportunities. Perhaps more people will stumble across the site in the near future.

Thanks, @HeavLeighGill , your comment there means a lot to me.

I should say that I am now pretty much the only person left to administer the
sight, therefore I have been a little bit absent from the forums because this is
a low priority to me personally and I had to just hope that you and the other
active users would keep the conversation going enough for the site to still have a
pulse, so to speak!

I have ideas for the site but even trying to post more on here and the Twitter
channel is time-dependent, therefore adding something like another social media
page or a blog would mean spreading myself too thinly to make any significant contribution on any one of these outputs: for this reason, I will have to either wait until I personally can invest more time in any NotTheNoobs development or lie low and try at least to post more regularly on here and our Twitter feed.

But in the end I know that all groups come and go - even Facebook will disappear or rebrand as something else - therefore I will keep this forum up until it is of value to a number of people, no matter how few, though adding members who contributed to conversations would be great.

The latest thread by @Peterma , for example, is something that on other forums would generate quite a bit of interest and replies: here, however, it has been a monologue: is it because members do not feel that they can contribute anything? Are they fearful of saying something too generic? I should like to think that everyone should feel welcome to post a reply to any topic, given that this is a forum and not a court of law! Yet some users suffer from this feeling of, let us call it inadequacy, or that is not it and maybe there are other reasons why they hardly ever type anything.

:)
